Introduction : Nanoparticles coated with antibiotics have cytotoxic effects on drug-resistant bacteria. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of chitosan nanoparticles loaded with amoxicillin and clavulanic acid on MRSA strains viability. Materials & Methods : In this study, chitosan nanoparticles prepared by ionic gelation methode and were loaded by amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. chitosan nanoparticles containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid are formed an average size less than 100 nm. 0.25-8 µg/ml concentration of chitosan nanoparticles and 1-128 µg/ml concentration of amoxicillin were prepared and MIC was calculated by micro-dilution methode. 100 μl of different concentrations of nano chitosan containing antibiotics were transferred to each well and One μl of bacterial suspension was added to wells. Turbidity was measured in the wavelength range of 630 nm by ELISA reader.Discussion and Conclusion : According to results, the combination of nanochitosan and amoxicillin has more antimicrobial activity compared to chitosan and amoxicillin alone, which shows the synergistic effect of amoxicillin with clavulanic acid and chitosan on drug-resistant bacteria.
