“Cohesion and writing quality” is an exploratory study of the construct of written cohesion in Euro Examinations. The research adopts a mixed methods design where the quantitative results from live exam data are combined with script analysis, as well as think-aloud protocols and semi-structured interviews with principal examiners. The findings suggest that while human rating relies heavily on the common understanding of a central concept, it is often difficult to collect empirical evidence to support the existence of a shared construct. Even though grounded in the local context of state-accredited foreign language examination systems in Hungary, the book has a lot to offer internationally for teachers or graduate students working toward a PhD, as well as fellow professional with an interest in validation, objective measurement, and cohesion research.
